- Hidden gems of graduate life: Kyung Hee University's extracurricular scene
Embarking on the journey of graduate studies in Korea can be an exhilarating yet daunting experience. While undergraduate students often bask in the vibrant energy of student club fairs and extracurricular activities, graduate students may find themselves yearning for similar avenues to connect and unwind. But fear not, for Kyung Hee University's Graduate Students’ Association has tailored a plethora of projects exclusively for graduate scholars, ensuring that every step of your academic journey is enriched with camaraderie and cultural exploration.
Inclusive participation
Open to both Master's and Ph.D. students, these activities beckon scholars from diverse backgrounds to come together and celebrate the rich tapestry of academia. Participation is as simple as filling out a Google form sent to the student’s email, with nominal fees ensuring accessibility for all - $7.52 for enrolled students and $11.28 for freshmen as well as those who have already graduated from university.
A glimpse into the activities
From the tranquil sanctuary of meditation classes to the adrenaline-pumping excitement of watching the South Korea National Football Team’s game on a colossal screen, the council leaves no stone unturned in curating a diverse array of experiences. Picture yourself immersed in a serene meditation session, guided by experienced instructors in the art of mindfulness and mental resilience. Beyond stress relief, participants were treated to a myriad of benefits, including a complimentary one-month subscription to the 코끼리 meditation app, fostering a culture of holistic well-being. For those craving physical rejuvenation, pilates classes offered a sanctuary to sculpt your body and elevate your spirit.
Camping in the recreational forest
As a testament to the transformative power of community and shared experiences, allow me to share two memorable projects I was fortunate to be part of. The two-day 'Camping in the Recreational Forest' program in a camping site located near Mount Chiak in WONJU, Gangwon offered a soul-stirring retreat amidst nature's embrace, forging bonds that transcend cultural and linguistic barriers. Departing from Kyung Hee University campus on Nov.18, 2023, students were led by experienced organizers with every detail meticulously curated for their comfort and safety. Upon arrival, students immersed themselves in the timeless elegance of a traditional Hanok-style house, engaging in a stress level test to gauge their well-being and receive personalized recommendations to enhance the immune system. Under the expert guidance of instructors, students made jar terrariums as a symbol of growth and renewal, while savoring the rich flavors of traditional Korean tea and delicacies. As night descended, everyone gathered around the warmth of a bonfire, swapping stories and savoring the simple joys of friendship.
