- How I Found Yonsei University: A Personal Journey to Studying in Korea
Studying abroad in Korea was a decision I made after extensive research and a bit of inspiration from popular culture. For those preparing to study here, I want to share my experience of how I found Yonsei University and what led me to choose it for my academic journey.
Discovering Yonsei University
My search for universities in Korea started when I stumbled upon the Common Application, which at the time listed only a few universities from Korea. Among them was Yonsei University, and I was immediately intrigued. As an international student, one of my top priorities was finding a university that offered courses in English. Fortunately, Yonsei's Underwood International College (UIC) provides all of its classes in English, which made it stand out as the perfect fit for me.
The Appeal of Yonsei University
I was already familiar with Yonsei University from its appearances in popular Korean dramas. The beautiful, sprawling campus and modern facilities were often showcased, which sparked my curiosity. As I researched more, I found that Yonsei was ranked highly on the QS World University Rankings, which added to its appeal.
But what truly sold me on Yonsei was its dynamic student life and the academic flexibility offered through UIC. The idea of being able to engage in diverse courses, participate in activities with both local and international students, and have access to a global network was exciting. I also saw how many student bloggers and vloggers praised the university for its inclusivity and the support offered to international students, which helped solidify my decision.
My Research Process: Vlogs, Websites, and Online Communities
To make an informed decision, I spent hours clicking through Yonsei’s official website and exploring various student blogs and vlogs. I found firsthand accounts from other international students, which gave me a glimpse into campus life, how to navigate life in Seoul, and tips on living as a student at Yonsei. Watching vlogs was particularly helpful because I got to see real-life experiences and hear about the challenges and benefits of studying here, from student clubs to daily life in the city.
