What is UEC?
UEC, a.k.a the United Exams Certificate is the college entrance exams for students who attend Chinese Independent High Schools (华文独立中学) in Malaysia.
Due the unique nature of Chinese Independent High Schools, college applications for UEC graduates can be a bit complicated sometimes. So, as a former UEC student myself, I'll be sharing some tips and tricks for applying to Korean universities.
*The tips I'll be sharing will be applicable for anyone who's looking to study in Korea in general, except for a few steps which are specific for UEC graduates so you can read on even if you're not Malaysian, or a UEC graduate :)
Why Korea, and why Ewha Womans University?
Korea is one of the countries that accept UEC students unconditionally.
So I went to the official Study in Korea website to get an overview of university choices in Korea. Oftentimes, the Study in Korea site would provide online/offline study fairs in various countries, so I attended one of those, and that's how I got to know about Ewha Womans University.
After narrowing down my university options, I went on the official websites of each university that I'm thinking of applying to, and just played around to figure out which one suits me the most.
*This is a very important step because:
1. This way you'll be able to find out if the university "matches your vibe", which is crucial towards a happy 4-years of studying in Korea!
2. This'll increase your chances of being accepted to your desired university since you'd display a certain amount of understanding towards your target university's visions/goals in your applications/interview.
Tip: Remember to go on to the KOREAN VERSION of the official sites as a lot of Korean universities don't update their English website very often. (You could use a translator app if your Korean proficiency isn't as high just yet.)
By going through Ewha's official site, I got a better understanding the curriculum they provide for students; I was able to figure out if my academic interests aligned with the specializations of my future professors; I also got to know that they ranked 1st for gender equality rankings by THE (Times Higher Education).
