About Dankook University
Dankook University (DKU) was founded in 1947 in Jongno District, central Seoul. The school was built initially as a college in the spirit of National Salvation, Independence and Self-Reliance. The campus has moved a few times, starting in Jongno and moving to Yongsan District – however, neither of the two current campuses of Dankook University are located in Seoul. Jukjeon campus, Gyeonggi, is the main campus that covers Information Technology (IT) and Cultural Technology (CT), including the College of Humanities, Social Science, Education and Software Convergence. On the other hand, the Cheonan Campus in South Chungcheong covers Bio Technology (BT) and Foreign Language Specialization, with the College of Medicine, Dentistry, Science and Technology. In 2014, Dankook University announced a dual system for two campuses and has tried to narrow the apparent preference gap between the main and the extension campus by facilitating inter-communication and eliminating overlapping courses. Dankook University is famous for its sports department, having produced numerous Olympic winners in short track speed skating, sprinting and swimming. DKU also has a hospital under its name and top dental programs, proving its strength in the medical and dental area as well. Dankook University has international programs for foreign students, including exchange programs, summer and winter schools and a Korean Language Center.
