- A Taste of Campus: A Review of the Academy of Korean Studies Cafeteria
Every university has a place where students gather to eat, chat, and take a break from their busy schedules. At the Academy of Korean Studies, that place is the cafeteria, also known as " Hakdang (학당)." As a student here, I have eaten many meals at this spot, and I want to share my thoughts on the food, the menu, and whether it’s worth the price.
The cafeteria serves a different menu every day, which means there is always something new to try. A typical meal includes a main dish, rice, soup, and various side dishes. During the 3rd week of March, the menu featured a mix of traditional Korean dishes and a few creative surprises. Some of the main dishes included spicy braised pork (돈사태김치찜), stir-fried sundae with vegetables (순대야채볶음), boneless chicken galbi (순살닭갈비), and black bean sauce over rice (돈육짜장소스). Alongside these, there were different types of rice, such as multigrain rice (잡곡밥) and pea rice (완두콩밥), served with soups like seaweed soup with perilla seeds (들깨미역국) and spicy seafood noodle soup (해물짬뽕국).
