- Winter in Seoul: I'm Surviving (But Barely)
Winter Survival Guide ❄️
This is my first full winter staying in Korea 🇰🇷. Normally I would go home after the Fall semester just around Christmas time. I was a bit worried about how cold it would get 🥶 and for the times I do go outside, how I would manage the snow ❄️, strong winds 🌬️ and temperature changes throughout the day. Surviving Korea’s winter has been a hit or miss in terms of enduring the cold because some weeks or even days feel hotter or colder.
Here’s how I’ve been surviving the winter:
Check Weather App Daily 📱
Honestly before moving to Korea, I’d never once check the weather in my home country because the temperatures feel relatively the same. Since moving to Korea, it’s routine to know the temperatures of the day (no matter the season). During winter, temperatures tend to fluctuate either because of snow ❄️, rain 🌧️, wind 🌬️, sunshine ☀️ etc. Not that any of those factors drastically change my attire but it at least gives me time to truly prepare and embrace the cold mentally. Knowing the temperature also lets me know things, for example:
- The thickness of clothing (Jackets, Socks) 🧥🧦
- To wear gloves 🧤, head cover 🧣, scarf (cause it can be a hassle to have) 🧣
- Heating packs ♨️
