About Chonnam National University
Chonnam National University, founded in 1952, is one of Korea's 10 flagship national universities. Its Yongbong Campus in Buk District, Gwangju, is the main campus where most classes are held. The Hakdong Campus in Dong District, Gwangju, is its medical campus, where classes for the university's medical school, pharmacy school and nursing school are held. The university has another campus in Yeosu, South Jeolla, which used to be a different university known as Yeosu University. It merged with Chonnam National University in 2006 and became the university's Yeosu Campus. Because Yeosu University was Korea's first school teaching fisheries science, the Yeosu Campus still serves as the home for university's College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
