About Gangneung-Wonju National University
Gangneung-Wonju National University (GWNU) is a national research university founded in 1946. It is the largest university in the mountaenous Gangwon region. As of 2022, the school has over 7,000 undergraduate students in Gangeung and 2,800 in Wonju, 750 graduate students, with nearly 800 academic personnel. It has two campuses, one in Gangneung on the eastern coast of Gangwon and the other in Wonju, to the west of Gangwon and not far from Seoul. GWNU has academic agreements formed with 73 overseas universities in 27 countries. It offers a Korean Language School for international students and has about 150 international students. The Wonju campus is about two hours by bus or 50 minutes by express train from Seoul, while the Gangneung campus is about three hours by bus or an hour and a half by express train from Seoul.
