Inje University was founded in 1979 by Paik Nak-hwan and Paik Nak-jo, starting as the Inje College of Medicine. The college’s name was changed to Inje College in 1988 then to Inje University a year later. The university has two campuses located in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang, and nearby Busan. The school is known for its medicine department, with its university hospital Paik Hospital operating in Seoul, Busan and Ilsan, Gyeonggi. The university topped the JoongAng Ilbo’s ranking of colleges with fewer than 20 years of history in 2000. It also runs a Korean Language & Culture Center for those who are interested in learning Korean and the Korean culture.
