About Kangwon National University
Kangwon National University (KNU) is one of Korea’s ten flagship national universities and is located in the mountaneous Gangwon province in the northeast of Korea. It was founded as Kangwon Provincial Chuncheon Agricultural College in 1947 and became a comprehensive university in 1978. KNU has three campuses within Gangwon: Chuncheon in the west and Samcheok and Dogye in the eastern coastal city of Samcheok. As of 2021, the university has nearly 20,000 undergraduate students, 2,60 graduate students and roughly 2,400 academic personnel. KNU welcomes international students and offers some one of the highest dormitory capacities among Korean universities. Due to its more rural location, travel to the eastern campuses from Seoul can take several hours, while the western Chuncheon campus is just a 50-minute train ride from Seoul.
