Located in Northern Seoul, the Korea Military Academy (KMA) trains and educates officer cadets for the Republic of Korea Army. It was founded in 1946 by the predecessor of the current Ministry of National Defense. As it is a military school, the cadets are required to follow strict rules and regulations. All cadets have to receive permission to travel outside the campus and while traveling outside, they have to behave and be in uniform at all times. There are foreign cadets from overseas military academis that have signed an agreement with the Korean Ministry of National Defence can have an opportunity to attend the KMA as exchange students.

As my time as a University Ambassador comes to an end, I want to share a story about a cultural phenomenon in South Korea that may seem ordinary to us but is quite unique on a global scale. South Korea is currently a divided nation, facing ongoing tension with North Korea. Due to this reality, the South Korean government enforces mandatory military service for its male citizens. For South Korean men, especially university students, military service is an unavoidable reality in their twenties and a duty that everyone must fulfill equally.
