SUNY Korea was established in March 2012 in Songdo, Incheon, and was the first American university to open in Korea. SUNY Korea is home to extended campuses of two American universities — Stony Brook University (SBU), which opened the Korean campus in 2012, and the Fashion Institue of Technology (FIT), which opened in 2017. SBU offers six undergraduate programs and FIT offers two. SUNY Korea runs a rolling admissions system and admissions operate separtely from the Korean college entrance system. A college application essay, high school transcript and English procifiency test are required documents for application. SBU students spend a year at their home campus in New York and FIT students spend two to receive the diploma issued by the home institutions. Like the campuses in the United States, both schools run their courses entirely in English, either taught by full-time or certified professors from the home campuses. SUNY Korea's undergraduate enrollment is around 1,200 students, with about 12 percent international students. SUNY Korea shares the campus with other Incheon Global Campus universities such as Ghent University and Utah University. SUNY Korea is about 10 minutes from the nearest subway station by foot and about 80 minutes away from Seoul by bus.
