Wonkwang University was founded in 1946 and is known as one of three schools that has a College of Oriental Medicine in Korea, along with Kyung Hee University and Woosuk University. The university is founded on the principles of Won-Buddhism and has a College of Won-Buddhism that teaches kyomu, the practices of Won-Buddhist monks. As a religious school, it requires all students to take the elective course Religion and Won-Buddhism to graduate. The campus is in Iksan, North Jeolla and is easily accessible because it a 10-minute bus ride from the well-connected Iksan train station.
