Among all the advantages of campus life in Korea, having access to cheap and delicious food around campus is definitely one of the highlights. Today, I will introduce some of my favorite cheap eats around Korea University’s campus. 

1. 용초수  

This Chinese restaurant is unanimously loved by KU students. You can eat rice like 짜장밥/Jjajang Rice (6,500 won) or 새우볶음밤/Shrimp Fried Rice (8,500 won) or even noodles with delicious 짜장면/Jjajang noodles (7,500 won) and 소고기면/Beef noodles (8,900 won). One spring day, I was passing by 용초수 when I suddenly saw the actor 홍석천 (Hong Seok Cheon) eating and filming a show at this restaurant. This was such an exciting moment for KU students who saw me. And of course, he loved the food too!

2. 반미362  

Not even 30 seconds away from 용초수, there is this Banh Mi franchise which also sells a great variety of drinks, including Vietnamese-style coffee. Okay, this is definitely not the place to go if you’re a Vietnamese food purist but if you like sandwiches then this place is perfect for you. Their sandwiches vary between 6000 to 8500 won and you also have menu with sandwich + drink included. They have many options such as vegetarian sandwiches or bulgogi, chicken breast etc…You can also customize your sandwich and add cheese or more meat and veggies for example.

3. 한솥 

I feel like pretty much every college student here already knows Hansot but if you’re new in Korea or you’re coming soon, you have to know it! Located near most college campuses, Hanson is a 도시락 (dosirak, lunch box) restaurant where you can simple and cheap meals. You can mostly find 도시락 or 덮밥 (bowl of rice with protein) like chicken mayo rice, bibimbap, tuna mayo rice, bulgogi with rice and veggies etc… It is so cheap, varying between 4000 to 10 000 won usually, and it’s quite good for the price.
