I sound like a broken record each time I praise Gwangju for its foreigner inclusivity but it's only because it's true!

As someone who once called Korea's city of light home, I can’t help but boast about its charm. Today, I’m sharing one of my most unique experiences during my time there—my unexpected dive into the world of radio broadcasting.

Before we get to the details, let me set the scene. When I moved to Korea, I had made a life-changing decision—switching my major from Biology to Media Communication. With no prior background in the field, I decided to use my time during Korean language training to immerse myself in as many hands-on experiences as possible before starting my GKS Master’s program.

One evening near the main gate of Chonnam National University, a banner caught my eye. My limited Korean skills managed to pick out a few key phrases: “broadcast radio” and “recruiting.” That was all I needed to know in order to send in an application. Fast forward a few days, I received a call confirming my acceptance into the program.

The initiative was aimed at local residents and had a special focus on foreigners, teaching us the fundamentals of radio production, from recording and editing to crafting a compelling show. Over time, I developed a detailed production plan and launched my very own program.
