5. Textbook Use
There is no need to buy a regular coursebook because the professor will provide you with a PDF of the textbook she created for the course. Additionally, all communication with the professor during the semester will take place on a platform called "Piazza." You don’t need to worry about learning how to use the platform, as it is quite simple, and the professor will send you step-by-step instructions via email once you are accepted into the course. Assignment submissions are primarily done through Google Forms.
6. Assignment Type
There were three main types of assignments, which included both individual and team work: "h," "a," and "e."
"h" assignments mainly consisted of individual quizzes or individual tasks, and they were generally the easiest part of the course. According to the syllabus, we had a total of six "h"-type assignments.
"a" assignments were usually done in teams, where all of us worked together on the tasks, and the work was typically divided among teammates. After the writing process for "a" assignments was completed, we would usually have a role-play day in class based on the business scenarios we had previously worked on or created as a team during the writing phase.
For example, if "a1" involved crafting a real-life business scenario and writing down all the statements we would actually use in that scenario, "a2" would be a role-play assignment that built upon what we had created in a1, incorporating the concepts we had learned in class. We had a total of three "a"-type assignments outlined in the syllabus.
And lastly, my favorite—"e"-type assignments! These assignments were always individual, which I personally prefer over team assignments because I believe I can perform better on my own. However, if an assignment is both individual and includes self-reflection, I enjoy it even more!
For "e"-type assignments, all you have to do is answer a set of self-reflection questions using the concepts you learn in class. These assignments usually took me long hours to complete, but I found them the most enjoyable due to their self-reflective nature. They allow you to both examine your understanding of the concepts taught in class and learn how to apply those concepts to your personal experiences.
This dual process helps deepen your understanding of business persuasion and negotiation concepts while also internalizing the knowledge gained from the classes. There were a total of two "e"-type assignments outlined in the syllabus.
7. Exam Type
There are no midterms or finals! Sounds like a dream course, right? But don’t get too excited. Instead, there’s an assignment every week, keeping you super busy even without midterms or finals.
