As winter gradually steps aside and spring takes its place, it signals the new school year is just about to begin.

Whether you are enrolling in elementary, middle or high school, it’s essential to prepare a checklist to ensure the first day goes as smoothly as possible — though, of course, some unexpected events might arise.

Here is a checklist of things to consider to make your first day perfect:

1.  Check your timetable and class locations

Breaks between classes are short, usually between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the school. So, make sure you know the location of each classes in advance to avoid heading to the wrong one.

I also recommend reviewing a school map and even taking a quick tour before the semester kicks off to avoid getting lost.

2.  Check key school events

Schools typically post a calendar on their website with important dates, such as deadlines for class registration and exam schedules.

But the best part is that these calendars also list school holidays and breaks. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with these dates so you can plan your breaks accordingly.

3.   Download your student ID

While most schools provide physical student ID cards, I suggest downloading your online student ID, which is accessible at any time.

You’ll likely need it to access some school facilities, such as the library.

4.  Purchase school materials
