- How I Made Korea Feel Like My Second Home
Stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t easy at all, especially when it comes to studying abroad in a foreign country alone, where you know no one but have to build your own “home.” For me, studying in Korea has always been my dream since I was young, and I'm grateful that it has finally become a reality.
However, starting a new life here hasn’t been easy at all. While I’m thankful for the opportunity to be able to study here, a lot of the time I find myself missing my home country, friends, and family. I believe most of the international students feel the same too. It was in these moments that I realised the importance of finding my own community here. Speaking our own language and laughing at inside jokes that we only know, only they can make you feel like here is your second home. So, how did I find my community here? It wasn’t that hard actually!
1. Build connections before coming to Korea.
First of all, I’m really grateful that I know quite a few Malaysian friends who have been studying in Korea for years. They’re my life saviours when I first arrived in Korea, as they are always free and open to help me whenever I need help. Hence, I think it is quite important to make some friends in your home country before you arrive in Korea, so you don’t feel lost when dealing with things like student visas and housing (as they are well-experienced). They’re the group of people you can rely on to help you start your journey here smoothly. So, don’t hesitate to ask your friends if they know anyone studying in Korea.

2. Join your school's international club.
