Human Rights Hub (HRH)

The Human Rights Hub (HRH) is a student organization at Yonsei Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). The club is dedicated to raising awareness about human rights among students, scholars, and anyone interested in deepening their understanding of global human rights issues.
From my experience, HRH organizes various events such as field trips, forums, and workshops. For instance, I participated in a DMZ field trip to Paju last year, where we visited the National Memorial for Abductees during the Korean War (국립 6.25전쟁납북자기념관), Imjingak (파주 임진각(평화누리공원)), and the Odusan Unification Observatory (오두산 통일전망대).
One moment that really stood out was when a family member of someone who was abducted shared their personal story. It really highlighted the ongoing effects of human rights violations in the region.
As an international student, I had little understanding to Korean history or the complex relationship between North and South Korea in my high school education. This trip provided an opportunity to learn about a lesser-discussed aspect of history and to reflect on the real life tragedies.
In addition, I think HRH collaborates with the Citizen Alliance for North Korean Human Rights, NKHR (북한인권시민연합), allowing members to gain valuable insights into North Korean human rights issues. This collaboration can be beneficial for those interested in research or advocacy in the relative field.
To sum up, HRH creates a meaningful impact by hosting events that get people thinking and encouraging important discussions about human rights.
